7 February 2020- San Juan, La Union, Philippines:  A reduction in the swell size and beautiful long glassy walls greeted the remaining contestants and the event organizers this morning, allowing the remaining three Round 2 heats of the Men’s Open Division and the Quarterfinals, the Semifinals of the Women’s Open Division, the Semifinals of the Under 18 and Single Division, and the Semifinals of the Over 40 and Single Division to be run, leaving just the Single Fin Shortboard, the Men’s Open Semifinals, and the Finals for the event’s conclusion tomorrow.

The swell forecast is showing another sizeable swell building overnight, which should deliver waves in the head high to overhead range, perfect for the Single Fin Shortboard Division and the other Division Finals.

In the Men’s Open Division, Semifinal 1 will see locals Marven Abat, Roger Casugay, and Perry Ventura with Japan’s Shohei Akimoto, and in Semifinal 2 Jay-R Esquivel, Rico Dumaguin, and Benito Narida (all La Union locals), will have Australian Mark Matisons to contend with for a berth in the finals of the Single and Unattached 2020.

In the Women’s Open Division, Siargao sisters Aping and Ikut Agudo, La Union’s Daisy Valdez, and first timer Nique Miller from Hawaii will meet in the Final.

The Under 18 and Single is an all local affair with finalists Jomarie Ebueza, Justin Ebueza, Carl Vincent, and John Andrew Equivel vying for the win.

A new division just added to the Single and Unattached this year is the Over 40 and Single Division, which will see Mike Oida, Jojo Lim, Lemon Dines, and Single and Unattached co-creator Buji Libarnes in a happy go lucky tussle for the top spot on the podium.

The competitors and crew have been told to be on standby at 6 am tomorrow to begin the exciting conclusion of the surfing part of the event, then be ready to party into the wee hours after the awards presentation tomorrow night.
