Opening Day of World Longboard Championship In Taiwan Called On

Jinzun Harbour, Taitung/Taiwan – The 2018 World Longboard Championship as part of the Taiwan Open of Surfing has been called On today in pumping 4-to-6 foot surf at Jinzun Harbour, in Taitung County. Men’s Round 1 will get underway at 10:30 am local time while the women’s opening round has been called off for the day.

WSL Event Director Will Hayden-Smith is excited to get the 8th instalment of the Taiwan Open of surfing Underway with the first of two Championship Events to take place this week in Taitung.

“WSL is so excited to be back here in Taiwan,” Hayden-Smith said. “We have pumping waves to start the event and the next few days look no different with a huge low sitting off the coast. We just crowned our winner’s for the local trials event and are set for the Championships to start. We will get things started with Men’s Round 1 and hopefully complete all 12 heats. the women’s event will be off for the day.

Round 1 of the men’s event is stacked with former two-time World Champion Harley Ingleby (AUS) taking on Eduardo Bage (BRA) and Makamae Desoto (HAW) in Heat 2.

All eyes will be on Heat 6 of Men’s Round 1 as reigning World Champion Taylor Jensen (USA) does battle with Sam Christianson (ZAF) and local wildcard Pan Hai Hsin (TPE).

The round will be completed with former World Champion Piccolo Clemente (PER) taking on Nic Jones (AUS) and Josh Constable (AUS)
