Making its debut this year, the first Lakawon Habagat Open gave a consistent Habagat wind all through out the weekend making the event in Lakawon Island one of the most successful kiteboarding events this year.

Spearheading this event is Mr. Toti Reformado, an avid kiteboarder and Spartan Athlete. “Showcasing Lakawon Island’s full potential during the Habagat season for kiteboarding and wind surfing will give a boost to this tiny island’s tourism business,” says Reformado. ” With this event, we will show the kiteboarding boarding community about the potential of this island being one of the best kiteboarding and wind surfing destinations in the Philippines,” Reformado added.

A total of 42 competitors from kiteboarding and windsurfing disciplines has participated this event. Kiteboarders and windsurfers from Palawan, Boracay, Manila, Romblon with international delegates from Hawaii, US, Guam and France.

One of the highlights of the event was the high flying Hang Time contest where Red Bull Athlete and Youth Olympics representative from Boracay Island Christian Tio showed his remarkable expertise together with his mentor and Philippines’ kiteboarding legend Ken Nacor soaring over 20 feet off the ground.
