In the recently held Kiteboarding Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Qualifiers Asia in Thailand’s Pak Nam Pran shores, Boracay’s Christian Tio snagged the competition’s highest honors to secure a spot at the 2018 Buenos Aires YOG. After scoring a total of 26 points to snag the gold in the qualifiers, the 17-year old will be heading to Argentina to represent flag and country in the kiteboarding’s debut at the YOG. However, to say that his journey will be easy mean underestimating the more than formidable competition he will be facing.
Tio may be facing the likes of Brazil’s Manoel Soares Dos Santos Neto, Antigua’s Tiger Tyson, South Africa’s Jonas Ouahmid, and Slovenia’s Toni Vodisek—all of whom have managed to triumph not only over the conditions and circumstances of their qualifying competitions, but also outperform their very talented opponents.
While the gifted Filipino-Norwegian has amassed numerous accolades from different international kiteboarding events, Tio is arguably his facing the toughest challenge of his young career yet.
We wish him the best of luck as he makes every beachcomber this side of the planet proud.
