It was a fun filled single fin weekend in La Union as our friends from Coast Thru Life, Buji, Nikki and Nina organized the annual Single and Unattached Classic Single Fin Invitational Longboarding contest at Carille, Carlatan La Union. This event is considered to be the only single fin surfing contest in the Philippines. Surfers from California, Holland, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and the Philippines celebrated the golden era of single fin logs and shortboards last February 9-12, 2017.

Carille.

Jay-R Esquivel proved himself once again as one of the best loggers in the country. Esquivel consistently dominated every heat displaying his smooth classic style combo during the men’s division of the single fin longboard contest.

Undeniably one of the best and most versatile surfers in the Philippines, 2017 Coast Thru Life Single and Unattached men’s longboard champion Jay-R Esquivel.

In the women’s division, Nienke Duinmeijer from Holland has successfully ended the 4 year reign of La Union’s pride Daisy Valdez as the women’s champion of Single and Unattached. It was Duinmeijer first time in the Philippines and she was so stoke after winning the title. ” I will be back next year for sure. Philippines is so beautiful! the people and the surf culture is amazing.” Says Duinmeijer.

2017 Single and Unattached women’s champion Nienke Duinmeijer enjoy the waist high peelers in Carille.

Nienke owns a surf travel tour in Holland called Single Fin-Surf Travel, check it out on Facebook, facebook.com/singlefinsurftravel.

Marven Abat showed an intense single fin shortboard action at Monaliza point braving a head high leash-less expression session in the afternoon. Waves are too small in Carille so the organizers decided to continue the surf contest in Monaliza point instead. It was a home court advantage for Marven giving an exciting performance to all the spectators at the Le Point Bar.

Here are some water shot highlights of the longboard contest in Carille.
