The Rundown: 2014 Boardsports Season Part 2

O well, time to unravel our part 2 of 2014 best boardsports moments. From Nyjah Huston to some sick waves in Bali Indonesia and Siargao Island Philippines, 2014 was indeed a perfect launching pad for the boardsports scene mainly on surfing and skateboarding.

July: DC skater Nyjah Huston has just won his second consecutive ESPY award for Best Male Action Sports Athlete. This win solidifies Huston as a top Action Sports competitor and comes in the middle of his skateboarding season. Read the article here.

August: Rip Curl Cup – Expression Session. See the highlights here.

August: It has been a long road for Bali’s favourite son, Garut Widiarta, 2014 Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang Champion. Read here.

September: Dropping on Cloud9’s famous right hander. Piso Alcala scored 10 in this gigantic critical drop during the 20th Siargao International Surfing Cup. Check out the highlights here.

September: Mountain Dew held its event called Ignite 2014 in the Mountain Dew Skate Park, Circuit Makati. Watch the video recap here.

October: The 2nd Annual Philippine Wahine Classic highlights some of the best female surfers currently in the Philippines, as well as those quickly coming up the ranks. Watch the official video highlights here.

October: West Java’s Dede Suryana earned his first ever ASP WQS victory today at the inaugural Komune Bali Pro presented by the Mad Hueys, taking on and besting ex-ASP WCT’er Dean “Dingo” Morrison in the 35 minute man-on-man finale in what has been billed as “the biggest 1-star QS ever” at Keramas, Bali. October: The 2nd annual Poks Forever Surf contest gave recognition to one of the most inspiring and best surfers in the Philippines, Ronnie “Poks” Esquivel. Ronnie “Poks” Esquivel was known to be one of the country’s top surfers who represented the Philippines in various world surf competitions and whose presence in the international surfing scene helped showcase La Union as a prime surfing destination. In a remarkable turn of events, Top Philippine skimboard athlete from Cebu Arjun Jimenez won the title in the semi-pro and 22-29 age division of the recently concluded Balboa Oktoberfest the final stop of the United Skim Tour in Newport Beach, California while Roderick Bazar won placed 3rd in 22-29 year old division.
