Skateistan: To Live And Skate Kabul

Skateistan began as a Kabul-based Afghan NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) and is now an International non-profit providing skateboarding and educational programming in Afghanistan, Cambodia and Pakistan. Skateistan is non-political, independent, and inclusive of all ethnicities, religions and social backgrounds.

Skateistan’s mission is to use the sport of skateboarding as a tool for empowering people in places where people, most specially children don’t know anything about the sport, giving young people a voice, and giving local people agency to shape projects according to need.

Here’s an award winning video from Skateistan

Skateistan: To Live And Skate Kabul is a beautiful and moving short film that follows the lives of two young skateboarders from Afghanistan who attend the Skateistan project. Juxtaposing the harsh reality of life in Kabul with the hopes and ambitions of the country’s children, the film is a touching ray of light from a country only ever in the news for all the wrong reasons.
