We’ve known Excel since day 1. He was there when we started My Life on Board. We met him at the back of a truck hitching a ride going to another surf spot during an event in Zambales in 2010. Since then, we’ve been collaborating and promoting his cause for Kilusan and his events.

We really thought Excel has gone out and live his life in a corporate world. But then a couple of months ago, while surfing in our favorite spot, we saw him catching a double overhead wave and was able to ride it. Glad to meet our old friend again. Then we asked him to be part of the surf ambassadors, he didn’t hesitate and was honored to be part of it.

Excel has been surfing since 2006, after he graduated from college, Excel and his 2 friends decided to have an adventure and learn surfing. He never stopped ever since…
Excel continues to surf because it calms him especially at the times where he think he is lost. He goes out and ride the waves, looking for his inner self and be found in a serene calm place where crashing waves are roaring.
“Surfing and skating is my choice in life because it keeps him fit, healthy and in tune with the world as we know it. He is an advocate of free surf and free skate because life isn’t a competition and your mind set should be learn and learn, skate and skate, surf and surf for every time you do it, especially on your own time, you get to find answers to those lingering questions in your head about life, well being and purpose.” – Excel Figueroa

For him, to pursue his passion for surfing is to pursue his hunger for that feeling of the unknown, also the his passion for boardsports is his drive similar to never giving up, which all the time reminds him that this can also be related to life and its challenges, take it HEAD ON…
