Davao City Wakeboard International Athlete Mikee “Meatball” Selga and her Passion for Wakeboarding

The Board Shop Team Riders Ken Tackmann, Nui Srirasin and Mikee ‘Meatball’ Selga from Thailand and Philippines came by to Singapore to take part in the 2012 Asian Wake Park Tour.

Maiquel Jawn T. Selga, most popularly known as Mikee, a local wakeboard shredder from Davao City has been into wakeboarding since April of 2010. Mikee’s first achievements is when she won 2nd place during the Kadayawan Cup at Deca Wakeboard Park, Davao City and 1^st Annual Cup 2010 also in Deca Wakeboard Park.

This soft spoken kid has been competing in different wakeboarding competitions here in the Philippines. As she continuous to progress and gain confidence, Mikee was able to compete in different interational wakeboarding competitions in Asia. She won 1st place during the TBS Cable Jam at Phuket Cable Park in Phuket, Thailand last December 2011 and again won 1st place at the 1^st Stop of Asian Wake Park Tour at Thai Wake Park in Bangkok, Thailand last March 2012.

Mikee during the 1st leg of the Monster Energy Drink Philippine Qualifier Series

Mikee’s recent addition to her winnings was when she won 1st place at the 2^nd Stop of the Asian Wake  Park Tour at Ski 360, in Singapore last August 2012. Mikee again showed her supremacy during the 1st and 2nd leg of the Monster Energy Drink Philippine Qualifier Series last September 8 in Lago De Oro and September 29 in Deca Wakepark Davao.

Mikee’s progression for the sport of wakeboarding is due to the overwhelming support of her mom, Mrs. Remiela Joan Selga who’s always with her to cheer for her. Mikee’s most important achievements was when she was awarded with the 1^st Mayor Sara Duterte and Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Athletes Recognition this year. She also received the 18^th So Kim Cheng Sports Awards last July 2012.

Mikee Selga has a long journey ahead of her for her wakeboarding career. We look forward to see Mikee represent our country in a prestigious wakeboarding competition like the rumored wakeboarding competition in 2020 Olympics.
